About Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company

For more than six decades, Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company has been built on one simple idea: independent grocers are stronger together.

Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company was founded in 1959 by 27 Piggly Wiggly owners who recognized that independent grocers accomplish more together than apart. Pooling their purchasing power gave those operators the scale to compete in a rapidly changing industry, and that cooperative principle still drives the company today. From its headquarters in Bessemer, Alabama, PWADC now supplies more than 250 stores across six states, with member locations generating in excess of $1.7 billion in annual sales. Retailers throughout the Southeast rely on the company for grocery, meat, produce, and bakery/deli products, supported by a complete range of distribution, retail, and operational services — pricing and promotional systems, logistics, advertising and marketing, store engineering, and three food shows each year.

Behind that infrastructure is a leadership team with deep experience in distribution, retail operations, logistics, and merchandising, guiding every division toward steady performance and sustained growth for member stores. President and CEO Christopher Brown describes the company’s mission as unchanged from its founding: strong service and strong relationships help local stores succeed in their own communities. His priority is performance-driven service — sharpening reliability, communication, and the tools that improve retail profitability — without sacrificing the independence and flexibility that member operators value. Continued investment in people, systems, and partnerships remains the means by which PWADC earns that trust, one delivery and one store at a time.
